The codes EMS by the Norwegian Forest Cats

what is the code EMS and how he is composed of?

Example: NFO n 09 22 => this code inform about breed, color, participation of white and the tabby. In this example it concerns of a Norwegian Forest Cat, classic tabby with a small participation of white with black like basic color.

Now we will take this code apart:

Like first we got the code of the breed, always written in three letters. NFO is written for Norwegian Forest Cat. The code of the cats Maine Coon is MCO, for a Holy Birme it's SBI, etc, etc...

Like second we have the basic color of the cat:

n = black (brown doesn't exist in the database of FIFé and the brown cats are registered like black)

a = blue (colloquial we are speaking of "grey" cats, but the blue is the dilution of the color black)

d = red

f = tortie

w = white (genetically not related with the white-participation of the cats)

e = crème (dilution of red)

g = blue-crème (dilution of black and red)

s = silver

t = description for all colors amber

Like third we have the participation of the white

Code-EMS Name Color distribution Example
01 Van

The whole body is white excepting the head and the tail, a colored spot on the body-side is allowed. When the cat is tabby the tabby-number is often "21" what means "tabby unknown", because the cat doesn't have enough color to recognize the tabby.

02 Harlequin

The minimum of the colored participation has to be 1/4 of the body, but not more than 1/2. Like with the "Van-Cats" normally we don't have enough color to determine the tabby, so many "Harlequin-Cats" are registered also with 21.

Pebbels av Snøfjord, NFO n 02 21

03 Bicolor

The minimum of the colored participation has to be 1/2 of the body but not more than 3/4. Normally the tabby is cognizable and will be registered with the right number.

09

The participation of the white color is less than 1/4 of the body surface. Normally the tabby is cognizable and will be registered with the right number.
